XTERRA Triathlon Race Information - Saturday, July 16, 2011

9:00am Start Full XTERRA Mountain Championship
.5 Mile or 1 Mile Open Water Swim
A .5 or 1 mile swim in Avon’s Nottingham Lake will kick off the point-to-point race.
This is a 1 or 2 lap, rectangular course
and a 10 minute warm up is allowed before the race begins. Average water temperature is between 67 and 71 degrees.
9 Mile or 15.5 Mile Mountain Bike
After T1, ride out to pavement and get ready for 2,200 or 3,600 feet of elevation gain. The off-road uphill climb utilizes the trails of Bachelor Gulch, Arrowhead and Beaver Creek. Athletes end the mountain bike portion of the race at the base of Centennial chair lift in Beaver Creek for T2.
3 Mile or 5.75 Mile Trail Run
*Please note a cut-off time of 1 p.m. (4 hours from XTERRA start) will be strictly enforced for athletes. Athletes who do not clear T2 and start on the run by 1:00 p.m., will not be allowed to continue. Less experienced racers are encouraged to attempt the Sport event.
After T2, runners climb from Beaver Creek Village for a trail run. There is an elevation gain of 700 or 1,300 feet. Beaver Creek Village is at 8,300 feet above sea level.
Triathlon Gear Set-up and Logistics
- Transition areas will open at 6:00 a.m.
- Drive to Beaver Creek, and set up T2 first. Temporary parking will be available at the Beaver Creek Village Transportation turn-around (Gear Drop Zone) located just above the Ford Hall Parking Garage Entrance and before the Beaver Creek Chapel on Village Road.
- Drop off all your running gear for T2 (Bike to Run) on the lawn next to the base of Centennial Lift (Chair #6).
- Drive back down the hill and park at the Beaver Creek Bear lot, approximately 1/2 mile west on Hwy 6 of the main Beaver Creek roundabout across from Agave Restaurant at the stop light.
- Ride your bike to the Start / T1 located on the East end of Nottingham Lake in Avon.
- Swim gear from T1 will be transported by race personnel to the finish area in the numbered bag given to you at athlete registration.
- After the race you can either ride your bike back down the hill to your vehicle or catch a free Village Transportation shuttle back to the Bear Parking lot.

9:00 a.m. Trail Half Marathon and 10k Trail Run Start
Half Marathon Trail Run (Sunday, July 17) Racers will enjoy a scenic and challenging out and back around the trails of Beaver Creek and Bachelor Gulch. A full 13.1 off-road miles, the course features a mix of singletrack, and double track terrain, gaining approximately 2,400 feet of elevation throughout the distance.
10K Trail Run (Sunday, July 17) Athletes will retrace Saturday’s full XTERRA run course gaining approximately 1,300 feet of elevation.
