.5 Mile or 1 Mile Open Water Swim

A1.5 kilometer swim in Avon’s Nottingham Lake will kick off the point-to-point race.
This is a 1 or 2 lap, rectangular course and a 10 minute warm up is allowed before the race begins. Average water temperature is between 67 and 71 degrees.

9 Mile or 15.5 Mile Mountain Bike

After T1, ride out to pavement and get ready for 2,200 or 3,600 feet of elevation gain. The off-road uphill climb goes along the trails of Bachelor Gulch, Arrowhead and Beaver Creek. Athletes end the mountain bike portion of the race at the base of Centennial chair lift in Beaver Creek for T2.

3 Mile or 5.75 Mile Trail Run

*Please note a cut-off time of 1 p.m. (4 hours from XTERRA start) will be strictly enforced for athletes.  Athletes who do not clear T2 and start on the run by 1:00 p.m., will not be allowed to continue.  Less experienced racers are encouraged to attempt the Sport event.

After T2, runners climb from Beaver Creek Village for a trail run. There is an elevation gain of 700 or 1,300 feet. Beaver Creek Village is at 8,300 feet above sea level.

Gear Set-up and Logistics

  • Transition areas will open at 6:00 a.m. 
  • Drive to Beaver Creek, and set up T2 first.  Temporary parking will be available at the Beaver Creek Village Transportation turn-around (Gear Drop Zone) located just above the Ford Hall Parking Garage Entrance and before the Beaver Creek Chapel on Village Road. 
  • Drop off all your running gear for T2 (Bike to Run) on the lawn next to the base of Centennial Lift (Chair #6). 
  • Drive back down the hill and park at the Beaver Creek Bear lot, approximately 1/2 mile west on Hwy 6 of the main Beaver Creek roundabout across from Agave Restaurant at the stop light.
  • Ride your bike to the Start / T1 located on the East end of Nottingham Lake in Avon. 
  • Swim gear from T1 will be transported by race personnel to the finish area in the numbered bag given to you at athlete registration.  
  • After the race you can either ride your bike back down the hill to your vehicle or catch a free Village Transportation shuttle back to the Bear Parking lot.

4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Packet pick-up & number pick-up and late registration (if event is not sold-out) at Beaver Creek Village – Winter Ticket Office (next to the Coyote Café, and down one level from Starbucks.) There will be no day-of registration.
5:00 p.m. XTERRA University, presented by Paul Mitchell at the Beaver Creek Registration Office, near packet pick-up location.

Saturday, July 17, 2010
6:00 a.m. Transition area set-up T1 and T2 (Set up T2 first, located at the base of Centennial lift in Beaver Creek. Drive from T2 set up and park at the Bear lot on Highway 6 at the base of Beaver Creek Mountain. Ride 1/2 mile to T1 at the east end of Nottingham Lake in Avon. Body marking and chip timing pickup at T1
6:00 - 7:30 a.m. On site late packet & number pick-up at Registration Office (base of Beaver Creek)
7:30 a.m. Sport T2 close
7:45 a.m. Sport Course Athlete swim warm-up
8:00 a.m. XTERRA Sport Athlete Safety and Course briefing at swim entrance, Nottingham Lake
8:00 a.m. T2 closes for XTERRA Mountain Championship athletes. All athletes should make their way to the start of the course in Avon.
8:15 a.m XTERRA Sport Start
8:30 a.m. XTERRA Mountain Championship swim warm-up
8:45 a.m. XTERRA Mountain Championship Safety and Course briefing at swim entrance, Nottingham Lake
9:00 a.m. XTERRA Mountain Championship Start - Wave order will be determined on site
8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Late registration for kids' Duathlon at Beaver Creek Registration office
10:00 a.m. Kids Duathlon (FREE) start at the base of Chair 6/ Centennial Lift
10:00 - 2:00 Paul Mitchell Cut-a-thon, to benefit the Challenged Athlete Foundation
10:00 a.m. XTERRA Sport course winners expected
11:15 a.m. XTERRA Mountain Champtionship course winners expected  
11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. BBQ Lunch and post-race party
1:00 p.m T2 Athlete cut-off.  Runner must clear T2 by 1:00 p.m.
